Lovers Walks

Lovers Walks

Wednesday night was beautiful, and I mean B-E-A-U-Tiful. It was warm and sunny and spring felt like it was just around the corner. Chris and I decided to go for a Lovers Walk (watch the SNL skit with Will Ferrel and you'll get it, otherwise we're just taking a super lame walk with a cheesy title). Anyway this walk took us through our neighbourhood and up to Pine Dairy Bar. SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
Pure magic. Everyone go to this place and enjoy the ice cream and poutine. It's phenomenal!

SUUUUUUUUUUPER Cheesy. Dont hate me.

Also SUUUUUUUUPER Cheesy, but who could hate poutine?

Thrifty Finds

My mum is an amazing thrift shopper; the best. Pretty much everything in my parents house is second hand, and its all goes together so well. She has passed the thrift shopping bug down to me and my sisters (lookout Value Village!). Recently my mom picked up a pair of (almost) brand new Birkenstocks. These baby's aren't cheap if you buy them new. I'm talking over $100. Mum got them for a steal under $10. And now they are mine! Happiness is a brand new(ish) pair of Birkenstocks that were purchased for a steal.

The Longest Date Ever

Generally when the husband and I go on a date we get in, get out, get gone. We go. We eat. We leave.  Usually we can do it all in under an hour. We inhale a good amount of food, crawl into bed and watch a movie. Super romantic right? You know you're married when. Haha! Mind you I don't think most restaurants would appreciate it if I lay on the floor with my pants unbuttoned after dinner. Just sayin. But the other night we surprised ourselves; we stayed at the restaurant for an hour and forty five minutes. What up? We talked, we ate, we laughed, we watched the game. It was by the far the longest dinner date we've ever been on. And it was great. We might make this a regular thing. Maybe... definitely.

What's In Your Cart?

The saying "you are what you eat" is often brushed aside with a guffaw and a snide comment about not being a cheeseburger. Our body is constantly regenerating and rebuilding itself. Some cells take longer to regenerate than others but, besides brain and some cells in the nervous system, human being regenerate a new body every seven years. The building blocks and fuel we use is the food we eat. So you're going to want to be eating the very best to have the best body possible. So this begs the question: what is in your cart? Are you loading up on good, nutritious food that is going to make you stronger? Or are you filling up on processes garbage that is going to cause heart disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, strokes, speed up aging, illness, IBS, eczema, psoriasis, and on and on and on and on... Grocery shopping for us has changed a lot in the past six months. The majority (95%) of our grocery cart is produce and the other 5% is usually stuff like nuts, flax, bread, chia, oil (coconut or olive [avocado soon hopefully]), baking ingredients, pasta, quinoa, rice, tomato sauce, fish, coconut milk, etc, etc. Basically produce is the majority of what we're buying and eating right now. And it's working out awesome cost wise. Our food budget is $75 a week. Before we started going vegetable based it was a stretch to get all our food in under $75, and often times we would go over. Now it's a lot easier to stay under budget and we get a lot more bang for our buck! Basically we're loving vegetable based, and there is no looking back.

Ladies Night

Saturday night I went out for dinner with some wonderful ladies. It was so nice to eat great food, and chat. You know how sometimes you just need a night out with your girlfriends. This was one of those nights and it was one of the best of those nights. This is just a post to say that I love my ladies, and I love the Hog Wild sandwich.

Lately...

Tada! Open Concept.
Recently things have changed. I started my new job (yay!) but for the month of March I'm only getting 10 hours a week (boo!). So I started working full time at the store (yay!) but that means I'm working all the time (boo!). And now Chris is supplying pretty much every day (yay!) but he takes the computer with him to school so I can't blog (boo!). So I haven't blogged in a while. So for the next month things will be  sporadic at best. But we're great. We're both getting work which is fantastic. And slowly but surely we're working on the house. Chris knocked out the wall between the kitchen and the living room while I was a work the other week. Crazy. Things are starting to happen!

Giving Uggs the Boot

Things are finally starting to warm up. Yay! That means sun, that means less layers, that means we're saving on our gas bill, that means cute clothes, and spring. It also means that the snow is going to melt and there is going to be slush, dirty, sand ridden slush everywhere. Uggs are not good boots for slush. They're great for really cold winter days. They're great for keeping your feet comfy. But they are not water proof, nor are they slush proof. I also have the ones that button up on the sides so stuff gets in through there, and their only mid height so I'm constantly getting snow in my boots. Not cool when you have to walk to work every day. So I need new boots. I also need dress pants but thats a different story. I'm debating between two.

Hunters
- they are completely waterproof
- they are super cute
- you can warm them up with huge socks
- they go nicely with dresses
- they are super heavy duty and long lasting
- multi season boots

Sorels
- they are super heavy duty
- they're cute in a girl meets lumberjack kind of way
- they're warm
- they're waterproof on the bottom
- they will last forever
- they might get a little hot in the spring

Which ones?

Resolutions Update

Back in the beginning of January I was feeling a little over confident and made some new years resolutions. And then I made an even sillier decision, I decided to update you guys every month or two.  Well here is my progress (or lack there of) so far. But I'm encouraged by the small amount of progress I have made and I'm inspired to keep working towards fulfilling them.

1. Read my bible every day. That hasn't happened. Sad face. I've read it more often then before and I've read it in more detail. So we're getting somewhere.

2. Clean my house at least once a week. Ha! But in all seriousness I've been pretty good thus far, NOT PERFECT, but pretty good.

3. Wash my makeup off every night. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

4. Read 12 books this year. I'm still ploughing through Anna Karenina. I'll call you hen I resurface.

5. Walk to work at least once a week. Nailing it! Except for that time that Timmins froze over for a while and it was physically impossible to walk to work without freezing to death. But I have been waling to and from work. Plus I have to walk to work with my new job because there is no parking.

Dreaming of Warmer Times

It was cold. Again. Today. I'm crying my eyes out. Not really, I'm just freezing my legs off. Thats for real. Anyways, because it's been so cold I've been day dreaming about summer and warmer times. One day it will be warm again. Won't it? SEND ME BACK TO MEXICO!!!!!!!!!

Conviction at it's Finest. Ouch.

Conviction makes me want to Ostrich it up and bury my head in the sand

We're currently doing the Crazy Love study with the Baptist Church C&C group. So far its been good. The book is hard hitting and direct. This week's chapter blew me out of the water. It was all about Lukewarm Christianity and it left me feeling very convicted. Me thinks I need to pray about this and see where God takes me.

A Berry Green Smoothy (aka The Black Mumba)

Today I'm sharing Green Smoothy #2: A Berry Green Smoothy or, as I like to call it THE BLACK MUMBA. This one turns out a darkish purple and is great for people who are scared off by the colour green. Once again all my measurements are not exact. Add more or less of anything depending on your preferences. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
Kale (or Collard Greens, or Bok Choy, or any leafy green)
Spinach
Parsley
Bananas
Coconut oil
Aloe Vera Gel
Coconut Water / Water
Mixed Berries

Add about 4 kale leaves and a big handful of spinach to the blender.

Add about a tbsp of parsley to the blender.

Add a banana to the blender.

Add about 1 tsp of coconut oil.

Add about 2 tbsps of Aloe Vera Gel.

Add 1 cup of water or coconut water and blend.

That will result in something that looks like this...

Next add about 2 cups of mixed berries and about another cup of water (give or take some depending on your preferences). Blend.

And finally you get this big, beautiful glass of goodness!
